Craig Bellamy and Danny Gabbidon have pulled out of Wales’ match against Norway in Wrexham on Wednesday due to a lack of match fitness. The West Ham duo join fellow team mate James Collins, Real Sociedad midfielder David Vaughan and Tottenham winger Gareth Bale on the absent list.
Manager Toshack has come under some criticsm with the squad, after seemingly not set a side his personal issues and failed to call up in form Cardiff winger Paul Parry, or Sunderland’s Danny Collins.
There have not been any call ups from the under 21 squad, with highly-rated Manchester City rookie Ched Evans or Bournemouth’s Sam Vokes looking the most likely to earn a call up to the main squad.
There is a worrying lack of Premiership quality in the Wales squad amogst a defensive crisis. Chris Gunter and Lewin Nyatanga are likely to form a defence with Wrexham’s Steve Evans and Hull City’s Sam Ricketts.
The midfield looks a little stronger, with the likes of Simon Davies, Joe Ledley, Carl Robinson and Jason Koumas all in the squad. Up front Wolves’ Freddy Eastwood could partner either Plymouth’s Jermaine Easter, or Derby’s Robert Earnshaw.
There could be some familiar faces in the Norway squad, Aston Villa’s John Carew, Blackburn’s Morten Gamst Pedersen and Liverpool’s John Arne Riise being the most recognised by Premier League fans.
