Joe Calzaghe v Bernard Hopkins Live Online from Las Vegas in the biggest boxing match of the year.
Undefeated Calzaghe, is 36 years old and has a record of 44 fights, all ending in victory and thirty two of those by knockouts.
In his last fight Joe Calzaghe became the first undisputed super middleweight champion of the world when he beat Mikkel Kessler in Cardiff last November. With nothing else to prove in that weight class, Calzaghe has stepped up to light heavyweight in order to face Hopkin.
Joe Calzaghe’s father and trainer Enzo says he is confident his charge will come out on top if Bernard Hopkins resorts to dirty tactics. He commented “Joe has fought dirty fighters, and they’ve all ended up in hospital - Joe can be a dirty fighter as well,”
Bernard Hopkins is seven years older than Calzaghe at 43 years of age. He also has an impressive record of 54 fights, with 48 wins, 32 of which by knockout. One of his fights was declared a draw and he has been beaten four times.
Hopkins has won his last two bouts, both by unanimous decision. He defeated Ronald Wright last July and Antonio Tarver
Bernard Hopkins’s trainer Freddie Roach says his team have developed the ideal plan to defeat Joe Calzaghe. Roach believes Hopkins will have too much experience and ring-craft for his Welsh opponent. Roach is of course is a former trainer of Mike Tyson, Oscar de la Hoya and Ireland’s Steve Collins among others.
In the undercard for the evening Nathan Cleverly will face Antonio Baker in an eight round bout. David Lopez faces Marco Rubio for the Ring Magazine world light heavyweight title. WBF heavyweight champion Audley Harrison makes a come back to the world of boxing and will face Ed Perry.
