Great American Bash - A preview

Posted on July 12, 2008

The Great American Bash was first started in 1985, as an NWA special event. It was then held under the WCW banner 1991 onwards, till the last Bash of the old era was held in 2000. After the WWE acquired WCW, the Bash was inactive for 3 years, till when it was brought back to life in 2004, as a WWE pay-per-view. Through the years, it has been one of professional wrestling’s premier events, held in July every year to celebrate the USA’s Independence Day.

Over the years, The Great American Bash has witnessed a number of great matches… Family feuds have been settled, old rivalries decided and a number of innovative matches have been introduced. Professional Wrestling’s greatest superstars have created history, which is befitting this great occasion!

2004 – The Resurrection
The inaugural Great American Bash under the WWE banner was marred by controversy, as fan-favourite Eddie Guerrero lost out to JBL by a whisker in the traditional Texas bull-rope match.

2007 – One Title, Two Champions!!
Two of the industry’s most celebrated superstars locked horns at last year’s Bash. John Cena and Bobby Lashley clashed for the WWE Championship in a match noted for the competitors’ true spirit of sportsmanship. Lashley had never really lost his ECW Championship, being stripped of it on being drafted to RAW. Despite the early advantage and all his efforts, Lashley couldn’t dethrone the reigning Champion, and Cena retained his gold. But despite the fact that there was only one winner, both men were champions!

So as you can see folks, The Great American Bash isn’t worth missing for anything! With the Rated-R Superstar Edge slated to take on The Game Triple H, this year’s Bash will undoubtedly be one of the best in history. So stay tuned!
