Fabio Capello finally gets to stamp his authority on the England side in his first game in charge. The build up has been promosing, with Steven Gerrard saying the new England coach wants his squad to demonstrate a winning mentality.
There has been some news regarding his first squad, David Beckham being left out being one of them. Beckham has since reacted positivley, telling the press that he felt it would have been “unfair” on his team-mates if he had been called up, as he has not played since December.
Exciting striker Gabriel Agbonlahor was called up to the squad, but then had to be left out after picking up an injury against Fulham.
In his place comes Jermaine DeFoe, who celebrated his transfer to Portsmouth with a goal against Chelsea on Saturday.
Out of the 22 players in the squad, they may have one late injury after Shaun Wright-Phillips missed England training on Monday evening.
Many people are speculating over who will start the game, however Capello does tend to favour a 4-4-2 formation, with many feeling that David James will start in goal. The defence could then be Micah Richards, Rio Ferdinand, Joleon Lescott and Wayne Bridge. The midfield may consist of David Bentley, Steven Gerrard, Gareth Barry and the debuting Ashley Young. Up front Wayne Rooney could start the game alongside Peter Crouch.
